Funerals

The Rite of Christian Burial

Normally the Funeral Rite begins at the Baptismal font and concludes with the triune baptismal Name of God (Father, Son +, and Holy Spirit).  We believe that in Baptism we are dead and buried with Christ, that we might also share in his resurrection.  The funeral rite therefore moves between grief, joy, sorrow for loss and thanksgiving for life lived and the hope of the promised resurrection. Funeral planning may occur in preparation for death, and funerals may be scheduled according to the church’s calendar and in conversation with the pastors.

About the columbarium

Our Lord’s resurrection from the dead occurred in a cemetery garden of death, therefore the church keeps within its precincts a burial garden in anticipation of Resurrection Day. This interior “cemetery,” the Luther Memorial columbarium, provides an opportunity for members to purchase a niche to house their cremated remains. Those desiring more information may inquire through the Luther Memorial Church office, or speak with one of the pastors.
