Location and parking

Luther Memorial is surrounded by the University of Wisconsin Campus.

Madison area map

On the detailed map below, letters "P" on the map show two parking areas: parking under the Lutheran Campus Center, off Conklin Court just east of Mills Street (please save these spaces for those who have difficulty walking); and under Grainger Hall, east of Brooks Street between University Avenue and W. Johnson Street. Additional parking is available elsewhere nearby.

A tunnel connects the parking area under the Lutheran Campus Center to the church. For the safety of children and teachers in the Child Development Center, the tunnel entrance is locked on weekdays while the CDC is in session. Church members and parents of CDC children can use an intercom system to ask the office staff to "buzz" them in, or use an access card to open the door.

A new apartment building is being built at the northeast corner of Mills and Johnson streets. When it is done, Luther Memorial will have 25 convenient covered parking places in it.

During the construction, members and visitors to the church are encouraged to walk, bicycle, carpool, and ride buses to church.

Bikes may be parked along the railing just east of the church off Conklin Court. The Southwest/Greenbush bike path, which connects to the Capital City State Trail, is just two blocks south of Luther Memorial.

Buses on Madison Metro's routes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 serve the area seven days a week.

If you would like a ride to church, ask the church office, (608) 258-3160, to make arrangements.

Alternate parking lots also are available. On the map below...

  • Bright green lots have free evening and weekend parking
  • Bright aqua buildings have free Sunday parking and meters the rest of the week
  • Bright blue ones have public parking for a fee.

Also, the St. Francis House parking lot just east of the church will be available for Luther Memorial's evening services Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and Sunday morning services on Palm Sunday and Easter. Beginning September 1, spaces in the St. Francis lot will be available on Sundays and on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights.

How to get an access card

Luther Memorial members and parents of children in the Luther Memorial Child Development Center may obtain entry cards by filling out a form available online (PDF, 72 KB) and returning it with a $25 deposit to Kim O'Leary in the church office. Call her at (608) 258-3160 ext. 14 for an appointment to have the card programmed and tested. The $25 will be refunded when the card is returned or may be donated to the Luther Memorial or CDC ministry of your choice.
