2007, Our CentennialTo celebrate our century as a congregation, we are planning a year-long series of events extending into 2008. Congregation member Dave Zentner is lending his graphic arts talents to design a pair of banners displaying the two key words for LMC’s Anniversary slogan: “Worship” and “Witness.” Commemorative mugs, T shirts, and Christmas ornaments will be available for sale. Mark your calendar now with the following dates so you won’t miss any of them! Sunday, September 23—PicnicFrom noon to 4 p.m, enjoy an old-fashioned picnic at Westmorland Park. There'll be a pig roast and potluck dinner, games, and live music. Poster [PDF, 168KB] Sunday, October 14—Jazz VespersAt 7 p.m. there will be a jazz vesper service with Lutheran Campus Ministry, which also is celebrating 100 years this year. Luther Memorial and Lutheran Campus Ministry share the same early history. Sunday, October 21—Hymn FestThis 3 p.m. event is especially for the public. Saturday, October 27—Organ ConcertJohn Chappell Stowe, professor of organ in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music and a member of Luther Memorial, will present the concert at 7:30 p.m.. Sunday, October 28 —Centennial CelebrationOn Reformation Sunday, the centennial will be commemorated at a 10 a.m. worship service. Former pastors will be invited to participate in the service. A luncheon will be held at the Edgewater Hotel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 4—All Saints Evening PrayerThis 4:30 p.m. service will include special music by Luther Memorial's choirs. Sunday, February 3, 2008—Mardi GrasDinner and an original musical based on Luther Memorial’s story Wednesday, March 19, 2008—Communion ReunionDuring Holy Week, there'll be a special service for people who need assistance to get to church. |
