Phase 1 proposed renovation & estimates

Proposed renovations

Hospitality improvements include:

  • New interior signage
  • New children’s realm for family ministry events and additional gathering space for pre- and post-event socializing
  • New and larger bathrooms off the nave (near children’s realm)
  • New elevator making the entire east wing accessible
  • Increased pantry storage off the kitchen
  • New sound system and hearing-assist system for the Great Room
  • New AV equipment for the Great Room
  • Air conditioning throughout east wing

Family Ministry improvements include:

  • A new nursery space close to the narthex and nave
  • New Sunday School rooms in close proximity to the nave and the outdoors
  • Dedicated space for middle and high school youth activities
  • A new children’s realm for socializing and activities

Outreach Ministry improvements include:

  • Better space for our Road Home guests including closets (and AC)
  • A new social ministry outreach space on the basement level

Nave improvements include:

  • A permanent free standing altar platform
  • Improved flooring in the front of the nave
  • Restoration of the terrazzo flooring in the entire nave
  • Completion of the painting scheme in the nave and restoration of the walls in the rear balcony
  • Improved air conditioning in the nave and rear balcony
  • Improved lighting and seating in the rear balcony
  • Dedicated bell choir room with additional music and worship storage near nave
  • Increased storage for music library materials

General building improvements include:

  • Expanded meeting space for Forum and other mid-sized events
  • New carpeting and paint in the lower level (Great Room, Luther Room, etc.)
  • New LED lighting in east wing and lower level Great Room and related space
  • Repairs and enhancements to existing HVAC system
  • New roof on the east education wing and roofing areas at the current elevator
  • Removal of the old walkway between the 1921 building and the east wing
  • Upper floor of east wing designed for partner ministry space and/or expanded congregational ministry space: Temporarily modified for short term staff use

Cost estimates

The following estimate shows general project costs for Phase 1 provided from Vogel Construction and The Kubala Washatko Architects (as of October 26, 2016). It also shows potential grant funding. If the congregation approves the contract with TKWA, Luther Memorial would proceed with both historic grant applications.
